Marina Center Ballot Measure
Should the Eureka City Council put the Marina Center Project on this November’s ballot?

Introduction

The City Council has been asked by Security National to put the Marina Center Project to a vote.  It costs between $1,000 and $3,000 to put a measure on the ballot.  In this case, the measure could 1) ask for a simple advisory vote (Do you support the project, yes or no?), OR 2) ask voters to approve the required zoning changes and land use amendments.

Several project requirements CAN’T be approved by a ballot measure: the environmental cleanup plan, title negotiations with the State Lands Commission, and design review/building permit approvals from the City of Eureka.  The Final Environmental Impact Report for this project has already been processed and approved.

The Coastal Commission would maintain final regulatory authority over the project.

We will take action on this request at our City Council Meeting on 5/18/10.

There is also topics on the budget, and the zoo. Why is there so little participation in this type of forum? Why not more public officials?

I overheard Randy Gans and Jeff Leonard talking about this the other day.

Should be a good show. I’ll try my best to make it.
