Eureka committee considers changes to cell tower regulations – Times-Standard Online.

The committee provided staff with direction to set requirements for extra notification and the need to address neighborhood character and public welfare concerns as part of the process.

”It was a very positive first step. We just want something more than what it is now,” said Councilman Larry Glass, one of the City Council’s liaisons to the committee. The other liaison, Councilman Mike Jones, was unable to make the meeting due to a work emergency. The city staff will prepare a draft ordinance for review by June 18.

The rest of the committee consists of two planning commission members, industry representatives and concerned citizens. The committee was created after the construction of a 60-foot Verizon Wireless cell tower prompted resistance from the Henderson Center neighborhood where it’s to be built.

It’s one of those problems that occurs, with part time public officials, that their full time job, often takes precedence.
