MIJ Letter: SMART is a different commute

This something the anti SMART folks don’t get, people like trains, and are more willing to ride them, than buses.

D. Simone thinks that if people were going to take the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit, we’d know because they’d already be riding the bus, and they’re not.

Has the letter’s writer ever taken the bus from San Rafael to Santa Rosa? It’s a near two-hour trip, even at non-rush hours. Furthermore, the cramped bus experience is not nearly as pleasant as rolling along on a train, unimpeded by traffic.

Modern diesel trains are clean and quiet, and SMART trains will travel at nearly 80 mph.

There’s no comparison to the bus.
