teacher and students smallA recently published YouTube video shows a North Carolina teacher discussing the presidential election in her classroom of young students. At one point the teacher asked the students to raise their hands and state who they were voting for in the school’s mock presidential election.
Student 1: “Obama.”
Teacher: “You’re pulling for Obama. Who are you pulling for? And if you’re pulling for John McCain, that’s fine; say him as well.”
Student 2: “Barack.”
Teacher: “Obama.”
Student 3: “John McCain.”
Teacher: “John…oh Lord, John McCain.”
Student 4: “John McCain.”
Teacher: “Oh, Jesus. John McCain, okay.”

Eric Kirk put a link to this on the NCJ Blogthing. It is ugly. The worst part is when the teacher says something roughly like, “Kathy, you said you would vote for McCain. That man is going to keep the Iraq war going for 100 years. Your daddy is in the military so that man is going to keep your daddy away from home for 100 years.”
I keep trying to understand where this teacher was coming from but I’m appalled.
Comment by Kym Saturday 15 Nov 2008 @ 07:15Capdiamont, we may disagree about Prop 8, but you have been tagged by me on this silly Humboldt Blogger game we silly bloggers are playing. I would like to talk to you more about this mixing church and politics and taxes sometime, but here it is Saturday night!
I was Tagged.
Greg and I have been tagged by Ekovox over at http://299opine.blogspot.com/ to post seven things you probably don’t know (or don’t want to know) about me…
1. I was on the Golf Team in High School. I have not played golf since high school, but one of these days you may see Greg and myself at the Eureka Muni Driving Range.
2. I also played tennis growing up. Alison from Congressman Mike Thompson’s office and I plan on playing tennis one day soon. Alison, I think I will go to Sport and Cycle tomorrow and buy a couple of rackets and some tennis balls. Can any of the bloggers list the public tennis courts in Eureka?
3. I have only traveled within the continent of North America. And yes, I can name the countries within the continent: Mexico, United States, and Canada. You betcha!!!
4. I have a two alcoholic drink maximum. Water is great!
5. My second toe is my longest toe.
